Farmer Manzur Hossain (58) has attracted a lot of people by cultivating an extraordinary type of paddy bearing purple color at Monagram under Sadar upazila in Cumilla district.
The purple paddy in the middle of green crops looks quite spectacular, according to local people. A great deal of farmers and visitors from other parts of the country are gathering at Monagram frequently to see Manzur Hossain's unusual category of paddy.
Officials from Agricultural Department including Salekur Rahman and Dilip Kumar have meanwhile visited Manzur Hossain's paddy field reportedly. This kind of paddy is totally uncommon and they are conducting research on this species of paddy, the agricultural officials said to media.
Manzur Hossain was awarded the Bangabandhu National Agricultural Prize 2016. That's why he intends to name it "Bangabandhu Paddy" Manzur Hossain told reporters.
Manzur Hossain said he was inspired by the contributions of agricultural researcher Dr. Akhter Hamid Khan who was the founder of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development in Cumilla (BARD).
Manzur Hossain said Bangladesh became independent under the leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. That's why he wishes to name the new paddy after Bangabandhu. He looks forward to the government's cooperation in this regard, Manzur Hossain remarked.
Reportedly Manzur Hossain is well-known among the country's agriculturists for his innovative farming approach. He has gained much fame by cultivating different sorts of fruits and rice by using his sharp farming skills.
